NBG FAMILY FUN

Family Fun with Hajime – Asobi

Play together, learn through repetition and spend more time with each other. NBG is play, learning and community. NBG is also Hajime - Asobi. It is written in black and white in the rules that Nordic Batgame is based on fair play, inclusion and the idea of playing each other well . Period.

These are especially important principles in family games – and absolutely fundamental for learning both ball basics and Nordic Batgame itself. The game is based on the idea of a gentleman's sport , where playability, control, fair play and aesthetics are valued more than brute strength.

With this approach, Nordic Batgame can be easily played across ages, levels and physical abilities .

NBG – Play first. Learn quickly.

The basic idea: Hajime – Asobi

NBG is inspired by two simple Japanese concepts:
Hajime“start now”, Get started without explanations and without pressure.
Asobiplay that develops, not training. Not correctness.
But joyful play that teaches. We call it: Hajime → Asobi. Start – and let the play do the work.

Start in 5 minutes

Set up the net. Take a bat each. Hit the ball through the net. Keep going as long as you can. No rules. No points. Just play. This is where your time together begins.

Learning through persistence

Every time the ball goes into the net, sideways or too far, something important happens: the body learns . But something else also happens: you get to know each other better through the game. NBG is made for: Lots of repetition. Small adjustments. Calm progression.

Repetition creates timing. Persistence creates mastery. Together, it creates community.

To parents – play nice with each other

Children don’t learn games by having them explained to them. They learn by trying again and again – with you. As a parent: let the game continue. Avoid over-correcting shots. Instead, encourage “trying again.” Praise effort and persistence – not results.

When you play NBG, it's not about winning. It's about playing each other well . When everyone experiences success, everyone wants to continue.

Focus on one stroke at a time (optional)

When you want to make the game easier – or calmer – you can agree to use only one stroke . For example, choose: only underhand, only forehand, only backhand.

Play as normal, but with this agreement: We help each other succeed. Change strokes when it feels easy for everyone – or change continuously and try them all.

🎯 Game 1: The Together Game
Purpose: Flow, cooperation and mutual success. Hit the ball back and forth. Count how many strokes you can make in a row. Help each other with calm strokes, aimed at the opponent's bat. When the ball goes out: smile – and start again. The longer the ball is in play, the better you play each other.

🎯 Game 2: The Goal Game (hit the target)
Objective: Precision, focus and repetitions. Here's how:
One player chooses a target on the other side of the net: a point, an object, or a bat placed on the ground. or a bat held in the hand. Players take turns playing a ball through the net. The goal is to hit the point or bat with the ball.

Play: until the target is hit. Or until it is hit 3 (or more) times.

Tip:
Change along the way and combine with regular play if you feel like it.

🎯 Game 3: The Tempo Game

Purpose: Rhythm, laughter and energy. Play a little faster. No points. Stop when someone starts laughing (or gets tired). Pace is most fun when everyone can keep up.

🎯 Game 4: Free Play
Purpose: Creativity and shared experience. Make your own rules, e.g.:
Long shot – how far can you shoot? Hit over the net instead of through. Multiple balls in play at the same time. Try a frisbee or a bouncy ball. Change the rules along the way.
Try something new together. The “wrong” thing is often what you remember best.

🔄 Change ball · Change environment

When the game feels the same, change the ball . All NBG sets contain different balls, which provide new challenges. A new ball provides: New speed, new timing - new learning. It helps you: Find a common level, play longer together, give everyone success.

Same game. New feel.
Same people. New experience.

Also change the environment:
Garden · terrace · park · street · garage · living room · beach · summer house · vacation · with friends. New place - new experiences together 😊

🌱 The game grows with you

NBG is not a game you finish. It grows with: age, experience, relationships. The more you play together, the more memorable experiences you accumulate.

🧡 Hajime – Asobi

Play now. Learn through play. NBG is not about being the best. It's about having time together . It's about playing each other well.
